The CALL Project

The Community Access to Lifelong Learning (CALL) Project is funded by the Department for Communities' Neighbourhood Renewal Programme and offers free classes right in the heart of the community. The classes are available to residents living in Ballee, Ballykeel or Harryville, as these are recognised areas of deprivation.

The CALL Project gives people the opportunity to access learning that can boost their confidence and increase their propsects in finding paid work. The classes take place in community spaces, making it easier for people who don't drive to attend. The tutors can offer flexible class times, meaning that they can be held morning, afternoon or evening, depending on what suits the majority of partipants. Classes can be accredited leading to a formal qualification, or they can be for leisure, in which soft skills are built up to help people learn without the stress and pressure of sitting an exam.

Some people had bad experiecnes within the education system and the CALL Projects aims to challenge this and offer particpants a more positive experience of learning, and therefore encouraging further learning to take place. In Ballee, residents have taken part in a Hairdressing class and some of our members our currently taking part in a Craft Class, sewing bags that will be filled with goodies and sent to countries in need. Ballykeel residents have been enjoying Holiday Spanish and British Sign Language classes. Down in Harryville, our local Men's Shed has been availing of a Woodburning class and Joinery. If you would like to find out more about these free community classes please email hello@ballymenasouth or call on 028 256 31350 or visit our facebook page
